important news from sierra stages
Since 2008, we have been proud to bring a wide range of heartfelt, thought-provoking and entertaining plays and musicals to Nevada County – it is hard to believe, but our just completed run of Sense and Sensibility at the Nevada Theatre was our 50th full production!
However, all good things must come to an end, and we have decided to wind-up operations after our summer production of Present Laughter by Noël Coward. Two exciting developments have helped us make this decision.
First, our friends at InConcert Sierra are currently building a “black box” theatre as part of the new Crown Point Venues. The black box, to be named in memory of Ken Getz, will be an important asset for the local theater community for many years to come. We have an opportunity to support the black box and honor the founders of Sierra Stages - Ken Getz, Peter Mason, JR Lewis, Janet & Bob Rossman, Krista & Bob Thomas – as well as everyone in the community who has contributed to the success of Sierra Stages.
Second, we have an opportunity to support a new organization, Sierra Theatre Company, that will bring a fresh vision and renewed energy to local theater. Sierra Theatre Company, which is made up of many of the people who have worked with Sierra Stages, will co-present our summer production of Present Laughter and present our Theater by the Book play reading series beginning in August. We are excited by the possibilities of a new community theater and invite everyone to give their full support to Sierra Theatre Company!
In the coming months, we will be letting you (and everyone in the community) know how you may support and invest in both the Ken Getz Black Box Theatre and in Sierra Theatre Company.
Creating and bringing theater to our community over the past 16+ years has been a great pleasure and honor. We have been privileged to collaborate with hundreds of talented actors, musicians, directors, designers, technical theater folks and production staff and to share our work with enthusiastic and supportive audiences.
With much love and gratitude,
All of us at Sierra Stages

Sierra Stages has been bringing quality community theatre to Nevada County for 16 years.
We incorporated in October 2008, and received tax-exempt status in March 2009. Our mission is to enrich the cultural life of Nevada County by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible performances for everyone. Now in our 17th season, we have presented or co-presented 50 full productions at the Nevada Theatre, Off Center Stage, Miners Foundry Cultural Center, The Center for the Arts, St. Joseph's Cultural Center, The UnChurch, and outdoors at The North Star House. Since 2013, we have presented our Theater by the Book play reading series in collaboration with the Miners Foundry Cultural Center from 2013 - 2023 and currently at the historic Nevada Theatre —more than 63 play readings and cabarets over 12 years!
We strive for quality in all aspects of our productions, while working with local actors, directors, designers, technical staff and musicians. The members of our board of directors are Erin Beatie, Heidi Grass, Laura LeBleu, JR Lewis, Kevin Lucas-Ross, Keith Porter, Kirsti Powell, and Hunter Reed.
